The safety action plan is a document that is comprised of different types of traffic data as well as public input to determine high injury networks of county roads and different options or suggestions on how to improve the safety of these networks. Any and all suggested options listed in this plan are subject to further engineered analyses to determine suitable application for specific situations and safety issues being addressed. This is not a prescribed list of projects to be executed. These are strictly suggestions that could improve traffic safety and lower fatalities. The purpose of this safety action plan is to enable us to apply for Safe Streets for All grant funds.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Montgomery County Highway Department is to provide the citizens of Montgomery County with a safe, cost-effective transportation system that ensures the mobility of people and products and promotes economic prosperity and preserves the quality of the environment.

Goal Statements

  • To replace or resurface 40 to 55 miles of the 735 miles of Montgomery County roads annually
  • To replace a bridge every other year, with a culvert when possible, and giving priority to bridges rated “low”
  • Mowing and maintain total right-of-way areas six times annually

Roads Program

Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Roads Program is to build, resurface, and maintain more than 735 miles of road in Montgomery County.

Bridge Program

Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Bridge Program is to build new bridges where indicated, replace bridges, and maintain bridges.

  • Number of culverts (Goal: 2)

  • Number of bridges rated “low” (Goal: 2)

Right-of-Way Program

Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Right-of-Way Program is to maintain all of the right-of-way areas in Montgomery County, mowing and clearing debris, maintenance and replacement of signage and traffic signals.
