The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is comprised of one Investigator Lieutenant, one Investigator Sergeant, two Investigators and two Deputies. The unit's members are cross-trained in multiple fields of expertise, as well as two deputies being commissioned as United States Deputies Marshals assigned to the Middle Tennessee District of the U.S. Marshals Service. The mission is to provide special support to core responsibilities within the Sheriff's Office.
More specifically, SIU is responsible for a wide arena of duties that range from investigations of domestic and adult sexual assaults, crime scene collection / processing / analyses (law enforcement forensics), internal investigations or inappropriate or criminal conduct of departmental personnel, support to District 7 Homeland Security and the tracking / surveillance / arrest of state and federal fugitives. Special Investigaitons will accomplish these endeavors as indicated through a combination of flexible specialized investigative servies.
